In a nutshell: Scientists in the UK have developed a new prostate cancer urine test that could increase early diagnosis rates. The test looks for a protein secreted into the urine by prostate tumours. The test is claimed to be twice as good as the current PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood test.

In a nutshell: A study published in the British Medical Journal claims that a single blood test for all 60-year-old men could pick out the vast majority of those likely to die from prostate cancer. The blood test could reveal men who need no further checks and prevent many men from having unnecessary treatment following regular screening.

In a nutshell: A new multinational study suggests that regular blood testing to measure levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA) is more effective at detecting prostate cancer in men with a genetic predisposition to the disease. Use of the PSA test as a screening tool for prostate cancer is controversial because many men with high levels do not have prostate cancer.
