In a nutshell: Persistent non-attenders of a breast cancer screening programme were included in an invitation management initiative to try and improve uptake and coverage. A moderate (3.1%) increase in breast cancer screening uptake resulted from the phone calls and home visits with nervous attenders being reassured about the process. The initiative saw more women declining screening than were screened but the initiative did make it easier for women to request permanently withdrawal from the programme.
