In a nutshell: The authors of this article argue that although the present financial crisis will inevitably affect primary cancer prevention in several different ways, cancer prevention is more relevant now than ever. Policy makers can either reduce expenditure in the short-term only to increase it in the long-term or they use the financial crisis as an opportunity to strengthen evidence-based prevention policies.

In a nutshell: This research report looks at the length of stay (LOS) for breast cancer surgery patients in two areas of England. the LOS is compared for 1997/98 and 2004/05. The report focuses on the reasons for the decreases in LOS and states that only 9% is due to changes in surgical procedures.

If screening was cost saving, governments and insurance companies might be more inclined to invest in colorectal cancer screening programs. We examined whether colorectal cancer screening would become cost saving with the widespread use of the newer, more expensive chemotherapies.
